First Trimester (week 1 – 12)

This stage is all about hormones! You will often feel more tired, morning or all day sickness, swollen breasts, headaches, mood swings, constipation, loss or increase in appetite and the list goes on! You may not feel like doing any exercise during this time but sometimes some exercise makes you feel better. Best to listen to your body and if you prefer a lie down instead of a long walk, then do it!

Second Trimester (week 13 – 28)

Most women start to feel a little more energetic as they enter this stage. You may start to notice your body changing shape as your abdomen begins to expand with the growing baby. This is also when a lot of women decide to take up exercise again as their energy levels start to pick up and the nausea subsides. Your posture will start to suffer at this stage due to heavier breasts and a growing bump, which shifts your centre of gravity. It is important to stick to exercise that is low impact and to choose exercises that support these changes.

Third Trimester (week 29 – 40)

It’s the home straight now! Tiredness may start to increase again and you may start to find every day tasks just that little more challenging. Try to keep your exercise up though if you feel comfortable to, even if it’s just a walk or a leisurely swim.
